Get ready for an unforgettable experience in the heart of nature on our annual Spring Wildflower Hike April 12. Discover the beauty of the ancient forest as it first comes alive with the vibrant colors of ragwort, buckeye, bloodroot, trout lily, trilliums, redbuds, and more in the coves and hollows of the beautiful Sequatchie Valley. You will be accompanied by naturalists, ethnobotanists, and foresters familiar with our bioregion as we walk along trails through the ancient forest amidst great boulders protected by the Land Trust of Tennessee. THe hikes will begin at 12:00 CT (1 ET) sharp. Please arrive at our parking area no later than 11:30 for a shuttle or hike to the SVI center, one mile from the parking area. The moderate hike will meander for 2-3 hours below the bluffs, giving time to discover and photograph the awakening flora. You may wish to continue on a more rugged guided hike up the cove, exploring hidden treasures. Be aware that on this hike, time is of no importance. Count on thrills and wonders. You are welcome at 11:00 CT to register for the hike and to visit Liquidambar Art Gallery at SVI, with pottery, paintings, sculptures, and glass by local artists. You may wish to picnic beneath the trees before the hike. We’ll provide herb tea. Please come prepared with long pants, hat, sturdy shoes, rainwear, water, and snacks. Kids are welcome! NO PETS please as we are a wildlife refuge. The Sequatchie Valley Institute is a non-profit educational organization promoting education and research in sustainable living, ecology, and art. Donations of $10-$30 for the hike help cover the cost of this and future educational events.
